River Oaks provides counseling services with the goal of providing excellent care to individuals coping with behavioral health needs. We treat a variety of diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, thought disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, substance abuse, childhood behavioral problems.
The River Oaks Therapists strive to create a treatment plan centered on you and your needs in order to reach your goals. We provide needed counseling to help you to develop the skills and support network needed to maintain your success. Individuals as young as 5 years old can be assessed for services.
River Oaks Counseling services accept various insurances including BCBS, TriCare, Medicare, other commercial insurances and private pay.

Laura Reeves, LICSW-S, PIP, CEAP, SAP
Executive Practice Manager
Laura Reeves is a native of Mobile, AL. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Social Work in 2004 and a Master of Social Work in 2005. Laura began working at Indian Rivers Behavioral Health in 2005. She served as the Children’s Services Manager until 2022, when Laura was promoted and named the Executive Practice Manager at River Oaks Health. Laura is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with credentials for Private Independent Practice, as well as being an approved Social Work Supervisor.
While at River Oaks, she has earned further credentialing as a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) and a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). As an SAP, Laura can provide U.S. Department of Transportation assessments and recommendations to ensure our community is safe. Additionally, she serves as the President of the Tuscaloosa Mental Health Alliance. Laura is also a certified CPR instructor, as well as an Adult and Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor.
Sam Franklin, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
Sam was born and raised in Louisiana. He obtained his Master of Divinity with Specialization in Counseling from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and moved to Tuscaloosa while completing his degree. Sam has over seven years of counseling experience and enjoys working with adults and children. Utilizing a client-centered, goal-oriented approach to therapy and various techniques, he helps clients work toward their personal goals.
Grace Lancaster, LICSW
Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker
Grace is a native of Decatur, AL. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Social Work in 2015 and a Master of Social Work in 2017. Grace has been practicing mental health social work since graduation. She is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with credentials for Private Independent Practice. Grace frequently utilizes a cognitive-behavioral approach when working with adults and children and enjoys providing clients with encouragement and validation when necessary.

Does my insurance require a referral?
There are some insurance companies who require a referral for services. Please check with your insurance company for information regarding referrals.

It is a good idea to check with your insurance company for benefit information. River Oaks will verify your insurance the day of your appointment for any out-of-pocket amounts due.
The pharmacy does not have my prescription, what do I do?
Please complete a Contact Us request and select the subject “Medication Issues”. Once we have your information, our team will review the issue and contact you in 1 to 2 business days with a resolution.
I need forms, letters, or paperwork completed. How does this work?
Please fill out our Contact Us form and select the subject “Forms / Letters / Paperwork Request”. Next, complete our Authorization for Disclosure of Health Information. Our staff members will contact you and get the specific details for your request in 1 to 2 business days. These requests can take up to 10 business days to complete.
How do I get a copy of my medical records?
